Call centers are a dime a dozen. In just about any developed city you will find at least one call center. Then, like mentioned earlier, there is such a great turn over because people throw in the towel all the time. They just cannot handle the stress of it all.

You have to maintain an attentive stance, even if the customer is upset and uncooperative.
Multitasking is definitely something you must be able to do before even considering becoming a telecommunicator. Just picture yourself behind a desk and having a strange person call in. You have to introduce yourself and your company. You are doing all of this while entering information like their social security number, account number, or name into the company database. There are often several different programs that you will have to log into, and by this time the customer could be impatient and upset. End result: they blame you for whatever has gone wrong, and you must remain calm despite it all.
Customer service skills are definitely crucial. Not just any customer service either. In telecom positions it is easier for customers to be belligerent on the phone than face to face. Your customer service skills must be top notch at all times.
You have to be attentive to every detail of the call. It is rude to ask them to repeat information they have already given you. There will often be distractions for the customer on his or her end, but you have to block that out and help them focus on the issue they need help with.
Telecommunications employment can be found in areas ranging from cell phone companies to local electric companies. There is a wide range of telecom positions. You can be a technical representative that helps to fix computers or cell phones. Then there are those who make nothing but outbound calls to try and sell a product, instead of dealing with customers calling in.
Telecommunicators make anywhere from about $7–$12 an hour. For the most part there are also benefits as well. If you are considering becoming a telecom employee, keep in mind that a lot of these places work you around the clock. Sometimes you may find yourself working twelve-hour shifts. It is definitely not an easy job; however you can meet many people along the way. Great customer service derives from your own personality. Some people are natural people lovers. They love others and that makes them great telecom employees.

You may even find that some of these employers will hire you and allow you to work right in the comfort of your own home if you have a computer and a phone line. There are so many facets of telecommunications employments that you will be amazed at the choices you will have once you decide to enter the field.

Sometimes you may even earn college credit in your job, depending on where you are. Just about all telecom positions will require you to have a couple weeks of training before you begin because of the different programs that you have to learn.
There is more to telecommunications employment than what you may think. There is more to it then merely sitting behind a computer and taking phone calls all day.
